| And those who will be remembered - |
| We lost several classmates and friends over the years. Sadly, Roy Gemmell (upper left), Class of '67 passed-away in June 2000 after suffering an apparent heart attack. The photo on the right was taken just two months before he died. I remember Roy well - 'always ready to lend a hand and a heckuva nice guy. Barbara, Brian, David, he will be remembered. It's hard to do Roy's life justice in the space available but per Barbara's recent letter, I'd like to share some of Roy's "story" with the group. rk Roy left Bolivia and graduated from high school in Midland, Texas in 1967. He attended Texas Tech for two years before moving to Washington, DC to become a manager for Hertz Rent-a-Car. According to Barbara, "he met a gorgeous Hertz rep," they fell in love and were married in 1973 in Bethesda, Maryland. In 1975, he joined Hewlett-Packard and moved to Sylmar, California. In 1982, Roy and Barbara's first son, Brian was born followed by David in 1984. In 1986, Roy received his associate degree in electrical engineering and in 1992, the family moved to Atlanta, Georgia. PCs, laptops, and hardware conectivity were his "toys." In June 2000, Roy died peacefully in his favorite chair while watching TV. To quote from Barbara, "We know his life made a difference - to not just us, his family, but to all those he helped over the years. I am sure his soul is in paradise. But to be on the safe side (Roy likened Hawaii to "paradise on earth"), we took his ashes and scattered them in the waters of Waimanalo Bay, Oahu, Hawaii." Roy spoke often of his years in Bolivia and the wondeful memories he had. Also fondly remembered . . .
